Am I a Shoe Answer

July 1, 2010

This week’s challenge was pretty off-kilter….Especially since I slightly cheated by rotating the picture.

Yes, it’s a shoe! Called “Spring Shoe” by Silvia Lüftenegger, this shoe is a sculptural piece (i.e. look but don’t touch/wear!)

There were some great responses, some correct and some…not so correct. My favorite answer (which just happened to be correct!) and winner of the $10 Forever 21 gift card is…

EMILY!

“Of course its a shoe! Who wouldn’t put that many flowers on their shoes?!”

My thoughts exactly. 🙂

Congrats! Contact shoeadayblog@gmail.com for your prize.

I’ll be back next week with another shoe query and prize. Happy Thursday!

The Look for Less (Slutty)

June 30, 2010

At first glance, I thought “Cute! Clear platforms!” Then I really LOOKED at the shoes Taylor Momsen wore to perform at Warped Tour over the weekend…

Um, so she is 16, in case anyone didn’t know.  If you want to purchase these shoes, they are available on Amazon for around $50.

Since clear heels are actually an up-and-coming trend, here’s a Look for Less (Slutty):

From Amazon for around $60, the wedge reduces the “stripper” look of the clear shoe.

Or add some color ($52 from Amazon, again) and keep your clothing a little more tame than garters and a transparent corset dress.

If I Had a Bottomless Pocketbook…

June 30, 2010

..I’d build a closet just like Barbie’s to house my shoe collection.

Wow…is that….HOT PINK or have my retinas burned out?

The Barbie Malibu Dream House in Malibu, created to celebrate Barbie’s 50th birthday and designed by Jonathan Adler, is my closet- heaven.

While I am not a “PINK PINK PINK” girl like my dear friend Amber, I feel like the curtains, shelves, and color all lend itself to an amazing –and very personalized– shoe closet. WANT!!! (Also, I want a pair of the pink shoes in a size 9, please.)

Am I a Shoe?

June 30, 2010

Everyone should take time to stop and smell the flowers…. or smell the shoes??  Which is it?

If you think it’s a shoe, what part of the shoe is it?

If you think it’s not a shoe, what is it? Personally, I think it’s a cell phone. A very fragrant cell phone… 🙂

Just to make it interesting, I’ll randomly pick a winner with the best response and the winner gets a (tiny so don’t get TOO excited) gift card to one of my favorite stores….Forever 21!

Don’t worry if you don’t live near one, because it’s redeemable online! Just leave your answer in the comments.

The Second Coming of the Almighty $800 Shoe

June 29, 2010

Mergers & Acquisitions activity in the footwear industry have drawn attention recently. Jones Apparel Group recently acquired Stuart Weitzman and it looks like there is no end in sight for M&A. Back when the recession was at its worst(best? how does one rate such things!), retail experts couldn’t hold their tongues advocating the imminent downfall of the $800 shoe. The downfall never happened, and shoe companies have thrived during a time when most other luxury products have faltered. Thus, shoe retailers have a surplus of cash and a hankering to SPEND. M&A is the first way to get rid of the pesky “extra” dollars.

Can I be the first to suggest to LVMH takeover Payless? I’d love to see some S&M straps and spikes on saddle shoes.

What does this mean for the consumer, for you and me? Look for more competition, new, innovative designs, fresh ideas, and more “bandwagon” shoe fans.

Ugly Shoe of the Day

June 29, 2010

Dr. Martens yikes. so 1990s, but with a 2010 price tag. yuuuck. I’m all for being edgy and grungy(well not really grungy) but these shoes look like they’re suffering from manic-depression. A clunky black army boot….covered in flowers? ehhhh…notsomuch.

If you’re an angsty tween living in Seattle, this might work. Otherwise, no.

Teal Deal

June 29, 2010

Just in case you didn’t already know, I LOVE reader requests. This was an additional “challenge” from EvaNadine of Stumble Into Style.

“I have also been on the lookout for a pair of teal/aqua suede (or faux suede) pumps. No ankle strap. Peep-toe or closed round toe. I’m open to sling-backs, though they are not my preference. No other adornment, plain and simple pumps.”

Teal Deal
